”The Fourth Annual Art and Music Thing,” held at the Laramie Civic Center was a success for 2 and 3 Dimensional artists! Like a buddy of mine said ”many people looked at my work and I made many contacts because of the Art and Music Thing.” I agree, hundreds of people from Laramie came to see and buy artwork. The comments on my paintings were priceless and I want to thank again the people who stopped to see my pieces. Many folks were not familiar with the trompe l’oeil paintings I exhibited…surprise and delight filled their eyes, realizing it was a painted 2 Dimensional piece of tape or a floating pencil.
I work at the Laramie High School as the In School Suspension teacher; two visitors were instructors from the Laramie High School Science Department and know me as the ISS teacher, not an artist. Both said how much they liked my work, but one of them stood in front of my pieces and marveled at the fact that I created it. “I never knew you did this kind of work, you think you kind of know somebody, I’m really surprised!” he said. Best compliment I had that day.
Millie Vercauteren and Rod Miller made this event happen with their vision and good work. At least 30 artists exhibited their pieces. My guess is three to four hundred art lovers attended, all ages. This event embraced the community of Laramie and the county of Albany. Attendees were walking, talking, laughing and smiling as they strolled through the Music and Art Thing. Many people came back to my exhibit to show their friends ordinary objects painted to be extra-ordinary depictions. I encouraged people to visit my website and to comment on my blog.
The day started at 9:00a.m. and ended for me at 9:00p.m. It was a successful show. I will be pleased to contribute next year. Thanks to Millie and Rod for the encouragement and Wiley, who put on the first Annual Art and Music Thing. As always, thanks for reading my blog.
All the best,
